The Hollenbek River rises in Mißmaaßen. This is notable because the Drögen Eider River rises 500 meters further west. Thus, this is where the boundary between the North Sea and Baltic Sea drainages runs.

The small bathing area by the striking twin oak trees can only serve as a dog bathing area. It's far too shady and has no convenient entry/exit point; you're more likely to walk through the vegetation. I'm offering this tip with the note that there are large, beautiful designated bathing areas with sandy beaches or grassy meadows to the north and south.

This Schierensee is located in the Plön district in Schleswig-Holstein, southeast of the town of Wankendorf. It is part of the Bornhöved chain of lakes, is about 30 hectares in size and up to 5.5 m deep. It is about one kilometer long and about 300 meters wide at its widest point. The shores of the lake are dominated by dense deciduous trees, only on the northeast side do fields reach right up to the lake shore. On the north shore there is a beautiful, free bathing area with a large lawn and a small sandy beach. Enjoy the view over Lake Schieren in the afternoon, when the sun is shining from behind you. To enjoy the view, you have to walk along the side path along the northern bank of the Hollenbek to the shore. Where the highlight is marked, there is only a bridge over the Hollenbek, shaded by the trees.

The Hollenbek has, at least according to my search using Google maps, only a short stream before it flows into the Schierensee.

Coming from Kiel, this is an ideal starting point for hikes into the Fuhlensee Nature Reserve. The parking lot is very small and is likely to be crowded on bathing days, as the lawn is huge. In recent years, I've also seen the parking lot filled with large piles of wood. So, there are very few parking spaces there.

There are lots of small bathing spots on the eastern shore of the Schierensee. Ideal for letting your dog bathe, as dogs are not permitted at the two official bathing areas. 🐶
