Søsportens Hus is the clubhouse of Silkeborg Kayak Club. If you come by on foot you can enjoy a great view of the lake from here.

The earliest history of Silkeborg is linked to the castle of the same name, which was located on the island of Slotsholmen northeast of today's city center, at the confluence of the Gudenå river and the Silkeborg Langsø lake. The first Silkeborg Castle was built in 1385, a primitive wooden building surrounded by palisades. It was later replaced by a brick building and later, at the beginning of the 16th century, by a complex consisting of a brick main building, a castle courtyard and stables. Silkeborg Castle received several royal visits. Both Frederik II and Christian IV regularly stayed in the main building, the "Great Stone House", among others. as part of hunting events in Central Jutland. During the wars against Sweden in the 17th century, Silkeborg was occupied three times by Swedish troops, who raged in the castle buildings and badly damaged the complex. The remains of the castle were demolished in 1726 after years of decline. Today the ground plan of the main building and the castle courtyard is marked with earth walls.
