The hike along the lake to the ruins of Hald Slot, as well as the ruins themselves, are always worth a visit.

The Hald Egeskov (Oak Forest) is Denmark's largest forest stand of old Danish oak trees, and has always been part of Hald Hovedgaard (Manor). Many trees are over 300 years old. All oak trees remain standing until they fall down of their own accord due to old age or decay. Many beetle species, some of them rare, live in the fallen tree trunks. The oak trees of the Hald area are now used for breeding. In good years several tons of acorns are collected, which are then planted all over Jutland.

A beautiful hiking trail runs directly along Hald Sø. The boardwalk is for hikers only.

The ruins of Hald Castle are attached to the estate of the manor house to the west. It is on a small island on the edge of Hald Sø. A short detour is worthwhile - especially for a photo from the castle tower.

Lake Hald is also a very good swimming / bathing spot - the best in central part of Jutland. There is both good access at the most southern point where there is a pier with a ladder down to shallow water https://goo.gl/maps/LeeXbfu9t5C5ht8b8 and in the north end where there is a club with a sauna that takes a dip all winter http://haldege.itj.dk. The southern pier is most popular with open water swimmers that can be seen from spring into the autumn wearing wetsuits. First in July and August is the lake hot enough for longer swims in bathing suit, but you can easily take a shorter dip.
