Here are the foundations of one of the watchtowers on the Limes Trail. Uncovered in 1896, an inscription was also found here that indicates the "Brittones Triputienses" as the builders, who were probably stationed in the Schlossau fort.

The information board here gives you pretty good information about why stones were used and not wood.
