A truly beautiful bridge to admire with its magnificent arches. Plus: a fantastic barbecue and picnic area right on the water, with a bistro (during the season) and restrooms. A prime location for a quick refreshment break and/or a swim in Lake Wohlen or the Aare.

Beautiful area. In this passage the route leads over a pasture that is not always passable, cows/bulls in the pasture. A large gate with a sign saying that the gate cannot be opened. Alternative route via the bank path. Has lots of stairs, steep terrain. Very slippery and difficult on wet ground. When the weather is nice there are lots of walkers/hikers. As beautiful as it is, I recommend choosing an alternative route.

A small road leads over the power plant/dam, where you have a beautiful view of the structure and the wide landscape. The Mühleberg hydroelectric power plant was the first large river power plant in the canton of Bern and, when it began operations, was one of the most modern power plants in Europe. The decision to implement the project was made in 1910, shortly after the Bern power plants were founded. The engine house and the dam are combined into one structure. When operations began, there were six Francis turbines for 50 Hz power generation in the 120 m long and 20 m high machine room. Each turbine had an output of 8100 HP (6 MW). The Kaplan turbine, added in 1965, has an output of 8.83 MW and generates traction current with a frequency of 16.7 Hz for the SBB.
