Don't go on the road, but on the sidewalk. Much less dangerous.

There is a great, bilingual book about the creation of the Schiffenen reservoir, over which the viaduct runs, with many pictures of the time before the Saane was dammed. It also has portraits of contemporary witnesses who had roots in the Saane valley. The book was published in 2012 by the O.S.K.A.R. association. The interesting path on the eastern slope of the river Saane (La Sarine) is not signposted, but easy to find and impossible to miss (due to a lack of alternatives or branches). It winds up and down the mountain or river slope, running along the cuts formed by several streams. From north to south, it first goes downhill for around 30 m to the mouth of a stream (with views of the railway viaduct), then uphill for a good 70 m towards the suburb of Windig.

A hermit's dwelling in the hamlet of Räsch was first mentioned in 1448. The hermit Johann Dupré and his assistant Johann Liecht expanded the rock dwelling to its current size between 1680 and 1708. In order to prevent the hermitage from collapsing and to preserve it for the general public, the parish of Düdingen carried out extensive renovation work in 2005/2006. Open and free of charge from April to September.

The Grandfey Viaduct on the railway line from Bern to Freiburg is one of the largest bridges in Switzerland. It was built between 1858 and 1862 and is 334 m long and 82 m high. With the electrification of the Swiss Federal Railways' rail network, the bridge had to be reinforced in order to be able to carry the heavier and faster locomotives and train compositions. Based on a concept by Robert Maillart, the pioneer of large concrete structures in Switzerland, the Grandfey Viaduct was given its new design between 1925 and 1927.
