The Old Town Hall stands centrally in the old town of Lahr in the Black Forest, in the immediate vicinity of the Judgment Square. Originally, the building was erected in the late 15th century as a typical town hall with an open ground floor. A major renovation took place in 1608: The open ground floor was partially walled up, an external staircase with a late Gothic tracery balustrade was added, and a volute gable was constructed.

The Stork Tower is the remnant of a medieval castle complex built around 1218/1220. It was one of four round corner towers of the castle complex. The castle served as the starting point for the settlement that later became the town of Lahr (granted town rights in 1278). The tower itself served as a prison until 1861. The name "Stork Tower" comes from the fact that storks regularly nested on the tower until the 1960s.
