Image from 2002, a late work in the oeuvre of the world-famous Belgian artist Jean-Michel Folon (1934-2005). However little detail Folon may put into the facial expressions of his characters, the posture and appearance of this sculpture clearly suggests that the character is looking into the distance... and at the same time seems introverted.

This bronze statue of mother and child sits on a wall in front of the church of Saint Remaclus. The Antwerp artist Helene Jacubowitz (°1952) made it in 2005. More information about the artist: https://www.helenejacubowitz.com/

This old Wheat Market dates from the 17th century. The ground floor housed merchants and their products, while the upper floor served as a meeting room for the Supreme Court (predecessor of what we now call the Justice of the Peace). From 1838 the building housed the town hall and then the police station, before being transformed into a catering business, now a pizzeria.

Country house dating from 1616, built after the city fire of 1615, making it one of the oldest buildings in the city. The building underwent a transformation in the second half of the 19th century, but the 17th century fireplace in Renaissance style has been preserved to this day. Now this country house is a hotel, with 12 rooms, half of which are housed in the building to the right of the restaurant.

This Gothic church dates from 1520-1540. It was built on the spot where a first place of worship already stood in the 9th century, but was destroyed in the 15th century. The new church was also seriously damaged by fire, a first time in 1615 (which required the bell tower to be rebuilt in 1715), and a second time in 1806, the building was completed in 1820, after which the spire was rebuilt and the church completely was restored. This statue was erected in memory of the road victims as part of the action of the ASBL SOS Weekend. It represents a roller coaster, symbol of infinity. It is topped by a character representing the creature that is leaving. Date of creation: 2010 Source: www.marche.be

The statue was created by sculptor Jean Culot, after a drawing by Bernard Paquot. Gugusse: Character symbolizing the Marchois spirit, in the "tower" that watches over the crossroads of the rampart. The character is mocking, sassy, patriotic, cheerful and outspoken. The statue is larger than the puppet and takes a comical pose: hand over his mouth, apologizing after letting go of a blunder like "Gross biesse di balouche quit'es", or embarrassed that we discovered the bottle he hides behind his back.
