A beautiful spot on the Raab River. You rarely see fords like this anymore. On the south side, you'll also find a bench for resting and what looks like a compass. Definitely a great tip from me. Magic place!

The history of this memorial goes back much further than the monuments to the fallen of the two World Wars, which can be found in almost every town and city and claimed so many lives in the first half of the 20th century. Here, the memorial commemorates the armed conflicts of the 16th and 17th centuries, when the Ottoman Empire, from the territory of present-day Turkey, conquered parts of the Balkans and advanced on Vienna. In 1529 and again in 1683, the army besieged the Austrian capital, which the Sultan called the "Golden Apple," but unsuccessfully on both occasions. However, even between these two more famous campaigns, there were hostile clashes between the Habsburg and Ottoman Empires. Here at Mogersdorf, the imperial troops triumphed, ending the so-called Turkish War of 1663/64.

Someone has clearly gone to great lengths to bring history to life here. Kudos! The excavated grave and its accompanying description are just as interesting as the three reconstructed burial mounds. And when you've had your fill of learning, you can also rest comfortably in the shade. Perfect!

A fantastic highlight! Here you can really see a mill wheel "in action." This invention (of the Romans?) is truly ingenious. I like it.

In the historic Kreuzstadl, you'll find a museum dedicated to the epic battle fought here in 1664, which halted the Ottoman victory.

Here you'll find the historic Kreuzstadl (Cross Barn) and a memmoth tree. The tree was planted here in 1981 by Senior District Administrator J. Gmoser as a souvenir from the USA. It was a symbol of Burgenland's solidarity with its compatriots who emigrated to the USA. In the historic Kreuzstadl itself, which commemorates the Battle of the Turks, you'll also find a museum dedicated to this very topic. In addition to plenty of seating, you can also take a break at the adjacent restaurant at the Kreuzstadl.
