Hello, the story of the origin of the word Rautendelein that is described on the plaque is absolute nonsense. My father, who was born in 1897 (he was already 61 when I was born), saw Gerhard Hauptmann's play as a young man. We come from Martinshöhe and he often went for walks in the Elendsklamm. The play impressed him so much that he carved the name Rautendelein into this boulder. And it didn't come about the way it looks now the first time, but rather he deepened the engraving every time he passed by. And that is the true story of Rautendelein in the Elendsklamm.

The design of the Protestant church points to the 14th century. It stands on the remains of an earlier Romanesque church that was built around the turn of the millennium.

It is said that during the war a French soldier / officer is said to have engraved his name on the stone. In some traditions it is said to have been a paratrooper. On closer inspection, it is probably the fairy figure from the fairy tale drama "The Sunken Bell", by Gerhart Hauptmann, first published in 1897.
