The Schwarzbach stream, which had been straightened, was renaturalized between 2005 and 2006 over a length of 1,700 meters (40 hectares including surrounding area). It now has a meandering course with new channels. "Reason: During the expansion of Ramstein Air Base, waterways were rerouted and engineered, leading to ecological deterioration of these watercourses. The renaturalization of the Schwarzbach was intended to help compensate for these negative impacts."
