Vienne, historic Limoges, the gourmet palace of the market halls and a return to nature before an appetizer

Built in an agglomeration that was to become the Cité, the bishop's town opposite the town of the Viscount's castle and the Saint-Martial abbey, its origin is probably early Christian. In 1884, Antoine Héron de Villefosse published an inscription that he saw engraved on a fragment "engaged in the base of the entrance tower of the cathedral, NE pillar", which according to him could be a re-use of a Roman milestone.

In 2005, a hexagonal baptistery that the probable dating places in the first third of the 5th century was explored on the north face of the cathedral.

Located at the foot of the cathedral in the historic district of the Cité, the Musée des Beaux Arts occupies the former episcopal palace built at the end of the 18th century and now listed as a historic monument. This majestic monument, located in the heart of gardens overlooking the Vienne valley, has housed the museum since 1912. After a complete restoration (2006-2010), it was enriched with contemporary extensions with a redeployment of the collections into four poles. To visit the temporary exhibition and the permanent ones, you should allow 2 hours because this museum is so rich in works exhibited and explanations on the different display cases. It is a real jewel for the eyes and a real encyclopedia for the mind for both children and adults because you learn lots of little-known things. The Musée national Adrien Dubouché has the world's richest public collection of Limoges porcelain and also includes works representing the major stages in the history of ceramics, from Antiquity to the present day, a collection of 18,000 works, 5,000 of which are currently on display. The tour is designed in a circular fashion with a particularly fluid and educational route, through spaces with different characters in order to avoid any monotony in the presentations. The tour begins with the different stages of porcelain manufacturing, then reveals the major moments in the history of ceramics from Antiquity to the present day, ending with Limoges porcelain.
