The cemetery is considered unique in the world. Carved wooden panels tell the stories of the dead buried here. For those who don't speak Romanian, Google Lens is a good option, although its translation leaves much to be desired.

A nearby nunnery has been used as such again since 1994. It consists of an extensive complex, with a small museum located in one of the buildings.

This campsite is run by Bram, the Dutch owner, and his Romanian wife. The campsite is basic but beautifully situated in nature, and the host is very friendly and helpful.

This monastery is incredible. Between the typical wooden buildings of Maramureș, the care taken, the flowers, a visit to the Bârsana Monastery is an unforgettable moment.

Associating joy with death is an unusual idea. The Joyful Cemetery and its colorful tombstones represent one of the jewels of Maramureș's unique heritage. On the blue wooden tombstones, there is a portrait of the deceased and a text telling the story of their life. The church and its brightly colored frescoes are also worth a visit.
