The Damme City Museum is housed in the former train station building. It is run by the Local History and Beautification Association. When walking through the city, it is worth taking a stroll through the attractive St. Viktor Cemetery in Damme to get some distance from the hustle and bustle and find some peace and quiet.

The town of Damme lies between Lake Dümmer and the Damme Hills. The wooded hills above the town center and the vast moorlands, which extend to the lake in the east, embed the town in a distinctive landscape with a unique flora and fauna. The town's history, stretching back some 6,600 years, can be explored in the town museum. Housed in the old train station building, the permanent exhibition provides information about the first traces of settlement, the almost 600-year-long sovereignty dispute between the Prince-Bishops of Münster and Osnabrück over the Damme region, and about iron ore mining, which was enormously important for the region in the mid-20th century. Modern art has also found its way into the region with a sculpture trail that winds through the town center. The centerpiece of the exhibition, however, is the history of the Damme Carnival.
