The current half-timbered house in Kupferhof 1 dates back to a building in the 17th century. It was rebuilt in 1982 on a new foundation. The traditional merchant's house had been home to the "Gemeinde- und Kolonialwarenhandlung P. Zeyn" with shops, offices and storage rooms since 1793, which developed over time into a paint shop. The Kupferhof itself is a privately built street in the 16th century. Johann Adolf Hasse was one of the most celebrated composers of the 18th century, but is largely forgotten today. He was born in Bergedorf in 1699 into a family of church musicians. He began his musical training at the age of 15 with the composer and music educator Johann Mattheson in Hamburg. In 1721 his first opera, Antioco, was performed in Braunschweig. This was followed by stops in Naples, Venice, Vienna, Warsaw and Dresden, where he enjoyed fame and high esteem in the fields of opera and church music. Johann Adolph Hasse died in Venice in 1783. Four men, distributed throughout the city of Hamburg, are something of a symbol of the Hanseatic city. Carved from oak wood and painted in 1993, they stand on buoys in the middle of the water and are popular sights and photo opportunities. Together they connect four places with each other - the Serrahn in Bergedorf, the Elbe near Övelgönne, the Süderelbe in Harburg and the outer alter on the Gurlitt Island - and thus create an invisible network across spatial boundaries. Johann Adolph Hasse (Italianized Giovanni Adolfo; baptized March 25, 1699 in Bergedorf; † December 16, 1783 in Venice) was an influential German composer of the late Baroque. His fame during his lifetime was largely based on his Italian-style operas. Johann Adolph Hasse came from a family of organists who had been organist at the Church of St. Petri and Pauli in Bergedorf for three generations, and was the great-grandson of Peter Hasse the Elder, a pupil of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck from Amsterdam. In 1714 he began to study singing in Hamburg, where the poet Johann Ulrich von König noticed him and recommended him as a tenor at the opera on Gänsemarkt in 1718. The following year, Hasse moved to Braunschweig, where his first opera Antioco was performed in the opera house on Hagenmarkt on August 11, 1721 with him in the title role. Since northern Germany otherwise offered him little prospects, Hasse traveled to Italy and studied composition with Nicola Porpora and Alessandro Scarlatti in Naples from 1722 to 1725.
