A beautiful view in both directions across the Spree River to Schöneweide. Among other things, the old industrial buildings are visible. Incidentally, the name "Kaisersteg" (Emperor's Bridge) in Berlin-Schöneweide is a reminder of the time of German Emperor Wilhelm II. Back then, a pedestrian bridge already existed at this location to transport workers from the burgeoning industrial plants, such as the Oberspree Cable Works (KWO) and the AEG factories, to their workplaces. The current bridge is a modern successor to this historic connection across the Spree.

Unfortunately, the new bridge, built in 2007, bears no resemblance whatsoever to the original. The delicate iron truss structure, designed by Heinrich Müller-Breslau (one of the leading structural engineers of his time), was blown up in the final days of World War II and was considered one of the most significant achievements of engineering around 1900. For a view of Köpenick's old town, you're actually a bit too far north; the view from the viewpoint on Gutenbergstrasse is definitely better. But the view of the buildings around the former "Bero" coffee factory on Lindenstrasse directly opposite is all the better for it.

The station is currently served by the RB 24 and RB 32 regional trains, as well as the S-Bahn lines S 45, S 46, S 47, S 8, S 85, and S 9. Behind the station, there is a transfer point to the tram and buses. The station has undergone renovations in recent years. Construction work was completed in June 2024, and the work on the tram loop was finished in August 2024.

A rich history dating back to 1873: the first dry cleaning business in Germany; the first factory workers' settlement in the Mark Brandenburg; the first locomotives with overhead lines were tested on the railway line between Schöneweide and Spindlersfeld; the newest S-Bahn trains of the 481, 483 and 484 series were also tested here for everyday usability.

What is often forgotten is that the Kie(t)ze (districts) originated through the resettlement of Slavic inhabitants from the towns conquered by the Ascanians in the 12th and 13th centuries in the Margraviate of Brandenburg, founded by Albert the Bear. The marches were the empire's defensive territories against Slavic invasions. Albert the Bear was the first Margrave of Brandenburg. He was authorized to raise armies for defense. The Slavic inhabitants of the Kie(t)ze had to deliver fresh food, mostly fish, to the castle or town and help with necessary work in the town. Kie(t)ze existed, for example, near Köpenick, Brandenburg an der Havel, Küstrin, Bad Freienwalde, Potsdam, Spandau, Grabow, Gröben, and Lebus. Here in Köpenick, the residents had fishing rights and were granted use of the Kietzer Feld (field) to the south. According to the old right of way, the three alleys—Kaumanns Gasse, Breite Gasse, and Judisgasse—must always be open so that residents who don't live near the water can also reach the river. And these aren't Köpenick's oldest buildings; Köpenick Castle, for example, dates back to the 17th century.

The memorial plaque on the bridge has unfortunately been checked
