De Holland: a building to be proud of. With De Holland, designed by architect Sybold van Ravesteyn, Dordrecht has an attractive building with a unique character within its city limits. It boasts a perfect location near the train station and a short walk from the city center. It is easily accessible by car and offers ample parking nearby. The striking architecture, which had long been overlooked, has been restored to its former glory, making it a true calling card for the city. The renowned architectural firm BiermanHenket Architects collaborated with the museum to create a truly unique building. Both the municipality of Dordrecht and the museum desired to restore the exterior as closely as possible to its 1939 appearance. This meant removing the 1988 extensions and elevators, allowing De Holland to once again be admired in all its glory, including the sculpture group above the entrance. The National Education Museum deliberately chose De Holland: a building with character, inviting to both passersby and visitors, open and bright, and with the potential to create an intimate and pleasant museum space. De Holland offers the National Education Museum the opportunity to create a welcoming and dynamic museum, modern yet with a sense of tradition. A place to return to again and again.

Dordrecht City Hall is a fascinating example of historical layering: a Gothic market hall with centuries-old cellars and attic, and a neoclassical façade resulting from a 19th-century reconstruction.
