The Protestant St. Matthew's Church stands centrally in the town center. Its neo-Gothic style and location on the market square define the townscape. The current church was built between 1889 and 1891, replacing an earlier structure that was almost completely destroyed in a devastating town fire. Despite the destruction of the previous building, some elements survived, such as a bell from 1626, which can now be found in the church's vestibule. The church itself is a three-aisled neo-Gothic hall church with a striking single-tower facade. A highlight of the interior is the altar, dating from 1992. It features linden wood sculptures by the artist Werner Mally-Kral, integrated into a neo-Gothic altarpiece.

Steep steps Maybe it's better to go a little slower the first time

The Rehturm (Reh Tower) is approximately 26 meters high and has 126 steps, if I haven't miscounted 😉. It was first mentioned in 1498, according to the tourist information office; at that time, it was part of a series of watchtowers. The Rehturm's purpose was to warn the residents of Plassenburg Castle and the town of Kulmbach of impending dangers with its luminous signal fires.

Beautiful flowing trail section

I only rode the first part of the trail, or rather, I mostly pushed and climbed. Definitely not for amateur mountain bikers who ride occasionally. Technique and skill, and especially appropriate protectors and a helmet, are a must... I got off at the first intersection and took the forest highway...
