Many of you probably know the Gimbach estate primarily as a popular destination for day trips, complete with a fantastic playground, a tractor for climbing, horses, paddocks, and orchards. But the Gimbach estate is much more than that. It's a historically significant site in Kelkheim, likely the location of the first church in what is now the town of Kelkheim. The name Gimbach comes from the word "Gyn," derived from the male name "Ginno." The Gynnenbach stream, which originates in the Johannesborn spring about 400 meters south of the Gimbach estate, was first documented in 1287 in connection with a chapel dedicated to St. John. Since the "Roteldisstein," a 7th-century gravestone, was discovered at this location in 1868—600 years later—it is believed that a church building with a churchyard existed there as early as the Merovingian period. It was likely an early medieval baptismal church dedicated to John the Baptist.

The Atzelberg Tower is a 27-meter-high, steel-constructed observation tower in Kelkheim-Eppenhain in the Taunus Mountains, which reopened to the public in December 2023. It is the successor to three previous towers destroyed by fire and offers panoramic views of the Taunus Mountains, including a view of Königstein, from its platform. Access is via a spiral staircase with 156 steps, and admission is free.

The approximately 119-hectare area, which was declared a nature reserve in 1977 under the identifier 1436001, extends south of Eppenhain, a district of the town of Kelkheim (Taunus).[1] In 2020, the nature reserve was expanded to 126.4 hectares.[2] It stretches like a belt south around Eppenhain on the heights of the Rossert and its subsidiary peaks, the Hainkopf (474 m above sea level) and the Dachsbau (373 m above sea level). In a somewhat smaller area (118.2 ha), the area is also part of the European Natura 2000 network as the Rossert-Hainkopf-Dachsbau FFH area.[3] The L 3011 state road runs to the west of the area, the L 3016 to the east, and the B 455 to the south. The Wellbach stream rises on the Heimliche Wiese, southeast of the main peak of the Rossert mountain, and flows into the Schwarzbach in Eppstein.
