Such a lovely mini-station! Upon arrival, I had to wait until the train started, so I took a look around. Clean and heated restrooms. The waiting room is also heated, with a large table and a corner bench. It feels a bit like a museum.

The station is finally open again, thanks to the efforts of the local population.

Ausserberg train station 🚉 is an ideal starting point for hikes along the Lötschberg south ramp. From here you can reach the famous Bietschtal bridge and the picturesque Suonen (historic irrigation canals) 🌊. The hikes offer breathtaking views of the Rhone Valley and the surrounding Alps 🏔️. The region is known for its unique flora and fauna 🌿 and the well-signposted hiking trails.

The station is currently not served by trains (probably until the end of 2024), but the toilet is open and clean.

The Lötschberg summit tunnel will be renovated from December 2018 to the end of 2024. This has the following effects on the timetable: Hohtenn will only be served every two hours instead of every hour. Two fewer trains will run from Eggerberg in the morning towards Brig–Domodossola. The Augstbordpass connects the small village of Gruben in the Turtmanntal Valley in the west with the small town of Grachen in the Mattertal Valley in the east. At 2,892 meters of altitude, this pass can hold snow, sometimes even during the summer. Known for their mineralized and therapeutic waters, these mountains have been frequented for several centuries. The path that takes you to the pass is mostly gravel and rock on both sides. From the top, you have a magnificent view of the alpine mountains.
