This is what camping along the coast is all about! Great views and easy access to the shoreline. The camp hosts are very helpful and can usually get you in to one of the first-come, first-served sites if you don't have a reservation. A handy base for exploring Monterey’s rolling roads. The campground is a perfect place to spend the night if you want open views and easy access to tough climbs like Laureles Grade. It’s better to start riding early here to beat the heat and enjoy the empty roads.

It is a nice cabin, clean, quiet. No food options except breakfast of hard boiled eggs, breads and juices.

Ventana Camp, located off Pine Ridge Trail by hiking up Ventana Camp Trail, is a peaceful retreat by the Big Sur River, near the confluence with Ventana Creek. Accessed via a steep ascent and switchbacks, the camp offers a relaxing atmosphere, with fewer visitors than other nearby camp spots. The 40-acre redwood canyon campground features tent-only sites with picnic tables, fire rings, nearby water faucets, and bathrooms. There are also luxury camping experiences; guests can opt for safari-style canvas tents with premium linens. RVs and trailers are not allowed, and check-in times are 2 pm for camping and 4 pm for glamping, with check-out at 11 am.

Lucia Lodge is a picturesque family-owned historic resort perched on a cliff along the Big Sur coast, boasting some of the most stunning views of the California Central Coast. The Lucia store was established in 1937, coinciding with the opening of Highway 1. A fire destroyed the restaurant and store in August 2021; however, the lodge, located just 100 yards to the north, continues to operate and is a fantastic place to stay if you're looking for a place to treat yourself and relax during an extensive adventure along the incredible coastline.

I stayed here in Oct 2022, to split the Big Sur ride into 2 days. Lovely and quiet location right above the ocean cliffs. Felt like we were all alone on the tip of the continent.

A little tough to find but it's the only accommodations in Lucia. Got hit by fires in late 2021 but was open (partially) as of Feb 2022. They have starlink internet (you won't have cell service) which is cool. Worth a stop if you want a bed in the area. Great views right on the water as well.

Last easily accessible campground for regular cars on decent surface, before the Indian Road is completely closed, about 2-3 miles further (at another campground). Good base for rides around the area.
