Mudhen Lake is a nice spot to pause and take in the rural scenery. The calm lake views make a pleasant break for stretching, refilling bottles, and enjoying a moment of stillness before rolling on.

This is the end of Milpitas Road, northwest of here past the campground the road is closed for bike and foot traffic along the Arroyo Seco - Indians Road route. If you are planning on biking to Arroyo Seco this is a decent place to start your adventure from the south side. There is a hiking trailhead here that mirrors a similar route to Santa Lucia.

This is a really fast, dramatic downhill that really treats you to what Big Sur has to offer. The trail is an old fire road. You can shuttle up to Pewitt Ridge Campground from the base, or embrace the grind and climb up. If you do, there will be sections that require hike-a-bike.

At the top of Elliot Hill, you can see expansive views of the surrounding areas. It is also a junction for Little Moab Road and Trail 95.

Nice, small lake in Laguna Seca Recreational Area. It is right along Trail 71, so it is a great place for a quick break to enjoy the peaceful setting.

This is the southern section of Trail 49; the northern section starts on the other side of Lookout Ridge Road. If you ride this trail north to south, it's a mix of challenging, twisty sections with lots of tight turns, and your classic flowing singletrack. Watch out for poison oak!

Once you crest the top of the hill you are rewarded with sweeping views of Pale Escrito Peak to the southeast. Engineer Canyon Rd and Sandy Ridge Rd are both paved with finely crushed gravel and offer lovely views of the rolling countryside.
