The fountain supplies drinking water, except in the winter months. In 1991/1992, after the political change, the Minerva, which was in dire need of renovation, was renovated with funds (33,000 DM) from the Association of Homeland Loyal Erfurters from West Germany. This fulfilled the request of Erfurt's mayor Manfred Ruge to the association's members at their meeting in Mainz in 1990.[1] The Minerva statue had to be repaired several times between 2004 and 2011 due to random damage.
