The Sonnenstein viewing platform was built in 2017 and is 14 meters long.

On the Kutschenberg there is a group of trees directly on the former inner German border. Hence the name: WestEastern Gate. It is formed by two 12 meter high oak trunks, which are connected at the bottom to a stainless steel threshold. They are framed by 66 red oaks. Over time, these are supposed to grow over the oak trunks to symbolize the growing together of West and East. The WestEast Gate was opened in June 2002 by former Soviet head of state M. Gorbachev.

The West-Eastern Gate on what is now the Green Belt (then the inner-German border), inaugurated by Mikhail Gorbachev in 2002, was created by the artists Anka Förster and Robert Schätzle.

The high climb to Sonnenstein is undoubtedly a sporting challenge, but the reward at the top is absolutely worth it. This steep climb leads to a breathtaking viewpoint from which you can enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding area.
