The Bismarck Tower is a landmark on the Seilerkuppe hill above the Seilersee lake at an elevation of 338 meters above sea level. There is a difference in altitude of approximately 130 meters from the top of the Seilersee dam to the base of the tower. The square tower base rests on a square foundation with sides measuring 7.5 meters. The viewing platform is 11 meters high and is accessible via a stone staircase with 44 steps and a spiral staircase with 13 steps. The tower is 14.5 meters high in total. The construction of a national monument was first considered in Iserlohn in 1911. After lengthy preparations, the foundation stone was laid on September 6, 1914, during the early days of the war. The tower was inaugurated on March 31, 1915. One day later, on Bismarck's 100th birthday, the fire in the bowl at the top of the tower was lit for the first time. Until the end of the war, the tower served as a lookout post for air traffic control. During World War II, it was used by the German Wehrmacht from 1940 onwards. After the war, the British military used it as a radio command center. The public was only allowed to use the Bismarck Tower as an observation tower from 1955 onwards. From 1957 to 1989, no fires were lit in the tower's top. A special feature of the Bismarck Tower today is its photovoltaic system with eight modules on the roof for generating electricity. These modules power a relay station for amateur radio and are not visible to visitors from below. Unfortunately, the Bismarck Tower is currently closed to visitors until further notice. There are structural defects that are currently being repaired. Exterior viewing is possible, however. https://www.maerkisches-sauerland.com/poi/bismarckturm https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bismarckturm_(Iserlohn)

Once you've managed the altitude difference up the Wixberg, you'll be rewarded with a great landscape and wonderful views. It's just beautiful how the well-paved paths wind their way over the ridge.

Always along the creek, almost flat. In winter there was water everywhere, many small tributaries to the stream. Our hiking boots put up with a lot!

The path is currently still officially closed and can only be driven on with the appropriate tires.

From the end of the town of Villigst to the rather unspectacular spring it is about 6 kilometers along the river. The path leads through the elongated valley. It is a good road, some of which runs near the creek and some further away. In at least three places, there are alternatively short paths directly on the stream. From a crossroads, the actual valley becomes somewhat pathless. The only options here are the cross-country route or the detour via Reingsen or east in the direction of the old post road (drive on).

The renaturation is urgently needed - this was shown by the storms with floods on July 14th, 21st
