The Grimkesee is a shallow lake classified as eutrophic and located southwest of Schwerin city center. On the north bank there is an allotment garden, which is adjacent to the "Old Cemetery". The water is difficult to access due to fences and a boggy alder swamp forest belt. The outflow runs to the Upper Ostofer Lake. The Grimkesee was privately owned until the 1960s and is now one of the legally protected biotopes.

The fountain "Rescue from Sea Distress," a bronze sculpture created by the sculptor Hugo Berwald in 1911, was surrounded by scandal at the time in conservative Schwerin. The fountain, depicting a strong man rescuing a naked young woman from the waves, originally stood on the market square and was relocated to its current location in front of the train station building in 1927.
