The area surrounding Wiligrad Castle is rich in historical sites, including several burial mounds that indicate earlier settlements. These graves mostly date back to the Bronze Age and are typical features of ancient cultural landscapes in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The remains of the Elisabeth spring can be found below Wiligrad Castle, directly on the lake slope. The square in front of the spring offers a wide view over Lake Schwerin. The spring is considered a place steeped in legend, but it is certain that the earlier residents of the castle fetched their Easter water from the Elisabeth spring "in secrecy" at Easter.
