The area of the Königsbrücker Heide is an FFH area and an EU bird sanctuary. When the area was set up as a military training area after World War II, the cultural landscape was largely destroyed. After the reunification, the diverse flora and fauna can gradually develop again in the area.

The Tiefental covers 86 hectares and has been a NSG since 1990. The fallen trees are essentially not cleared (only the paths are kept free) so that a natural wild forest with interesting impressions has emerged. The trees are also in the Pulsnitz and give an interesting picture here too.
