Lake Roikier was formed in the 13th century from a moorland cleared by monks from Glücksburg. At that time, Glücksburg housed a Cistercian monastery, and the lake was probably used by the monks for water supply and fish farming.

Sankelmarker Lake is a natural body of water from the last ice age, which is now fed by two streams and various springs on the banks and bottom.
