Lake Roikier was formed in the 13th century from a moorland cleared by monks from Glücksburg. At that time, Glücksburg housed a Cistercian monastery, and the lake was probably used by the monks for water supply and fish farming.

The cliffs in the west continue to change shape and color over the years. It is partially covered by vegetation. But the slanting bands of the various sand deposits can still be clearly seen... The cliffs provide living space for sand martins. But wind and waves also cause erosion of the cliff, whereupon the removed material is moved along the beach 😏...

The plank path through the moor to the source is really recommended - but not for bicycles. Still mobile with the MTB - everyone else should better go on foot for the detour.
