The steep coast as well as the whole peninsula Holnis are "remnants" of the last ice age and result of the tectonic deformations of that time. The largest part of the peninsula is under nature protection, which u.a. means that there are certain restrictions and that some sections (such as the area around the cliff) can not be entered. This, however, does not detract from the joy and amazement that nature lovers will surely encounter when undertaking a hike on the peninsula. :)

Beautiful in every season. On top of the cliff is a picnic bench. Here you have a great view of the inner fjord and the Danish shore. The Holnis cliff and the underlying beach sections are protected and may not be entered except on the hiking trail.

The cliffs in the west continue to change shape and color over the years. It is partially covered by vegetation. But the slanting bands of the various sand deposits can still be clearly seen...

The cliffs provide living space for sand martins. But wind and waves also cause erosion of the cliff, whereupon the removed material is moved along the beach 😏

The Holnis Cliff marks the northern tip of the Holnis peninsula in the Flensburg Fjord. The cliffs are approximately 20 meters high and are a nature reserve.

From the top, you have sweeping views across the Baltic Sea all the way to Denmark. At the foot of the cliff, you'll find a natural beach perfect for walks.

The area is a habitat for many seabirds and an important resting place for migratory birds. Swimming, picnicking, and dogs are permitted here, but only to a limited extent, as the cliff area is specially protected.
