The Leinleiter is a nearly 20 km long right tributary of the Wiesent in Franconian Switzerland, which flows in Upper Franconia in Bavaria.

A wonderful landscape that you can discover again and again.

This stone circle reminds visitors of the legendary Stonehenge in England. However, the Franconian stone group is not quite as old. The monoliths stand in a circle on a field between Tiefenpölz and Geisdorf. In terms of size and age, the group cannot quite keep up with the English original, but the atmosphere created by the fog, sun and clouds can give you goosebumps just as much.

The original Stonehenge is a Neolithic megalithic structure near the Avon River near Amesbury, southern England. It was built in several successive versions from at least 3000 BC. The Franconian Stonehenge is a millennial megalithic structure near Tiefenpölz near Heiligenstadt in Upper Franconia, in the Bamberg district. Construction of the stone circle began in 2024 AD and is still ongoing.

The owner of the property, a building contractor from Heiligenstadt, was so taken with the prehistoric original from England that he completed a copy of the famous world cultural heritage site in May 2024, albeit in a smaller version, after an initial version in autumn 2023. Instead of the stones of the original, which were up to seven metres high and weighed up to 40 tonnes, the largest stone here is still three metres high and weighs around seven tonnes. A wedding couple was apparently so fascinated by this Franconian Stonehenge that they got married here in a free ceremony. (Source: Fränkischer Tag newspaper, July 16, 2024)
