The United Mulde is formed in Sermuth by the confluence of the Zwickauer and Freiberger Mulde. It drains a catchment area of approx. 7,400km². During the Elster and Saale cold periods in the Quaternary, the river changed its course several times. The stone cliffs testify to the enormous power of the water, with which the hollow digs deeper and deeper into the rock. The "Rochlitz porphyry" that is located here and extends into the riverbed is still being removed today.

The former granite quarry is now a beautiful lake. The neighboring large Ammelshain quarry serves as training water for divers, as it is up to 27 meters deep. The hiking trails around the quarries are very idyllic and close to nature.
