The Bernsteinsee is located west of Körkwitz in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania. The body of water is a gravel lake and is about 13 hectares in size. The lake is located in the eastern part of the town of Ribnitz-Damgarten and in the west of the municipality of Dierhagen. The Bersteinsee was created by the accumulation of groundwater in a gravel mine and is now used for tourism.

The coastal moor is part of the Ribnitz-Damgarten municipal forest. It is a 274 ha nature reserve. The moor, which was used decades ago for peat extraction, is now the habitat of very special plants and animal species that have become rare.
