Mecklenburg's thickest beech tree, with a trunk circumference of 8 meters, is dying!

Great cycling region; I cycled through here on my round trip. The paths are great, sometimes sandy, up and down. I would recommend a mountain bike or gravel bike.

The oak tree stands 800 m northeast of Neu Dobbin, a small district of Dobbin-Linstow. It stands in the middle of a field. The trunk is densely overgrown with undergrowth. This makes it difficult to measure the circumference. The oak tree has an umbrella-shaped crown that is significantly wider than it is tall. At its widest point, the crown has a diameter of 30 m. The monumental trunk is very irregular. Several thickenings can be seen towards the ground. At a height of 3 m, the trunk splits into several branches. The oak tree is in good condition. 1.3 km southeast stands the Shepherd's Beech, which, with a trunk circumference of 8.58 m, is one of the thickest beeches in Europe. The Shepherd's Beech is a red beech in the municipality of Dobbin-Linstow in the Rostock district. With a trunk circumference of over 8 meters and a height of 23 meters, it is one of the largest known beech trees in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This remarkable and special landmark in the field was designated a natural monument in 1987 by a resolution of the Güstrow district council. The total area of the nature park is 355 km². 56 percent of this area is covered with forest, 13 percent are lakes and rivers, 13 percent grassland, 12 percent fields, 4 percent moors and heaths, the rest is cultural landscape. There are a total of 60 lakes in the nature park, and the Nebel and Mildenitz rivers have their source here. A really impressive tree. But I think many of us are more likely to die like this beech tree.
