A magnificent 🏰, looming over the vineyards of the town of Alken 🤩. Wonderfully accessible via the Moselsteig trail or the Traumpfade trail 😊.

This is one of the more than 100 existing "Saar-Hunsrück dream loops" that make the large area south of the Moselle very attractive as a hiking destination. In the brochure it is described with the words "With magnificent views, the hiking trail leads from the Hunsrück plateau ... into the deep Ehrbach valley. In complete isolation, the path runs along a narrow path along the stream. There are steep ascents and descents with ... surprising views." The dream loop is 8.5 kilometers long, 390 meters in altitude and is described as taking 3 to 4 hours to walk.

Hikers can linger briefly above the town and enjoy the panorama of the Rhine. In Boppard itself, a memorial has been erected to the eponym of the vantage point, named "Gedeonseck" in his honour, whose real name is Johannes Baptist BERGER; see https://www.komoot.de/highlight/1034420

The Gedeonseck or Vierseenblick is a vantage point above Boppard and the Bopparder Hamm. Bopparder Hamm is the name given to the largest loop of the Rhine. The slopes on the left bank of the Rhine are characterized by viticulture. At 75 hectares, they form the largest contiguous area under vines in the Middle Rhine Valley. Mainly Riesling, Rivaner and Pinot Noir are grown there. The name Vierseenblick comes from the fact that the Rhine is perceived from there as four separate lakes due to two hills that restrict the view.

Pretty waterfall that is fed by one of the Ehrbach tributaries. In the immediate vicinity is a bank that invites you to linger. One of the highlights in the gorge and a great place for a break.

Great for taking water photos. Dippers are sometimes spotted.

Best spot for photographing the Rheinschleife: With a view of the Rhine, there is a viewing area to the left of the restaurant, which is delimited by a fence. A small trail takes you past the fence on the left to the slope behind the restaurant. From there (i.e. behind the fence and closer to the Rhine) you have a clear view of the loop. The slope is also ideal if you want to include people or four-legged friends in the photo. The area is fairly flat and should therefore be easy to walk even for those who are afraid of heights. If you don't have a wide-angle lens and panorama function, you can simply take several overlapping photos and use the free app "Hugin".
