A unique little church built directly on the beach. Legend has it that it was built by Neapolitan coral traders who survived a shipwreck. Inside, various sculptures, statues, and decorations carved directly into the rock face are featured. There's an entrance fee (and there's also a nearby parking lot if you arrive by car).

There are no water points and I recommend suitable shoes.

The small church of Piedigrotta is a Catholic place of worship, completely dug into the tuff rocks, located one kilometer north of Pizzo, in the locality of "La Madonnella". Inside, it is decorated with several groups of sculptures, also made of tuff. The church borders the beach and faces west. An afternoon visit is very suggestive, when the sun's rays penetrate the depths of the caves, highlighting the colors of the mineral salts that cover the walls. To say that the Benedictine Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell'Isola (the Santuario benedettino di Santa Maria dell'Isola) is magnificent would be a sheer understatement, and it's not hard to see why it's one of Tropea's most photographed attractions. A mixture of local history museum and contemporary history. The collections range from old clay pots to a wedding dress from 1990. Included in the entrance fee to the grottos (4 euros in 2024), there are toilets with washbasins.

The houses carved into the rock are worth seeing, very characteristic, a 30-minute tour and a subsequent visit are worth it.
