Starting point of the mountain bike route in Liessel. This varied route of approximately 17.8 kilometers takes you through beautiful forests and nature reserves with a mix of singletracks, turns, and fast sections. A fun and sporty route for mountain bikers who want to enjoy nature and a challenging ride. 🚵‍♂️🌲

During the year, a water tap will be installed at the De Smeltkroes sports park, where there is also a large car park from which the routes for MTB routes, walking routes, cycling routes start, and there is a rest area with a table and benches.

The route is 2.2 kilometers long. It is marked with wooden posts with the international MTB sign in green (triangle with 2 circles underneath). The route runs through the part of the Dennendijkse Bossen that lies north of the A67. The forest is planted on sand drifts and heath areas that formed the northernmost part of the former “Groote-Heide von Asten”. The Dennendijkse Forest is a young forest area with some open areas, the so-called bleaching areas. Bleachers were common places where linen was bleached.

A very nice MTB route that you can also ride at a faster pace. Everything was cleared and you could get through everywhere easily. A bit of sand made the ride difficult in some places but it is definitely doable

The route was slightly modified again last year.

Sand forest. Poor sandy soil here has started to drift due to overgrazing with sheep and sod cutting for the deep litter. The nuisance caused by the drifting sand and the need for wood in the Limburg mines made the State decide to plant Scots Pines in the 19th century. The pure and therefore poor sand has created a rare nature reserve in which lichens naturally grow that can survive as pioneers under very extreme conditions. Buntven A scenically attractive place in this forest is the Buntven, an extinct depression in which water remains. Typical plants such as cotton grass and sundew can be found here. However, control measures are necessary to preserve these plants. They are in danger of being displaced by the strawberry that is given more opportunities through food enrichment. Many animal species can move between the northern and southern parts of the forest area without danger via four wildlife tunnels under the provincial road N270. When frost sets in, this place, due to its sheltered location in the woods and shallow water, is one of the first places in the region where you can quickly tie up your skates. MTB In the sand forest, mountain bikers will also find an attractive single track that can be easily combined with other tracks in the region, such as those of the Bakelse Bossen, De Bikkels-Vlierden, Liessel, Asten, Gemert and Milheeze. The possibilities are endless. Nature playground The sand forest is also a play forest. You can play here in a natural environment, build huts, climb on the equipment, ride on the cable car and on the Viking swing.
