Easy access with the cable cars, but beware of the sudden change in altitude. Magnificent views follow, along well-marked but sometimes steep trails (not a particularly family-friendly hike, especially for older people). Well worth planning a day trip.

As you follow the trail through the Narreyroux valley, the sound of water tumbling over rocks leads you to the hidden Narreyroux waterfall. It’s a peaceful spot to sit on a rock and watch the water cascading down. Note: the trail to the waterfall can be technical, so caution is advised no matter which approach you take.

We did the tour in mid-May 2023 and unfortunately we couldn't get through to the lakes due to the snow. You could have guessed, now we're smarter :) I'll be back some other time, the tour looks fantastic!

Lac des Sirènes is located in the town of Orcières in Champsaur, at an altitude of 2,396 meters. The paths to get there are in good condition and the view magnificent.

One of the most beautiful valleys in France. The Route du Pré de Madame Carle takes you to the heart of the Ecrins National Park. There is a small refuge/cafe where you can get something to eat. From Vallouise the climb is 13 km with an average gradient of 5.4%, however in the last 4 km there are gradients of 8-9% on average.

The Lac des Sirènes, is a high mountain lake located in the town of Orcières (Hautes-Alpes) in the Champsaur (Ecrins massif), at an altitude of 2,396 meters. It can be accessed on foot and by mountain bike from the Merlette farmhouse, it has a vertical drop of 590 metres.

Pre Madame Carle is perhaps the most beautiful valley in France. The climb ends after more than 13 kilometers at 1876 meters at a refuge. Here you are surrounded by alpine giants. It is a starting point for many walks and hikes to the Glacier Blanc, Glacier Noir or the Barre des Écrins - at 4102 meters the highest peak of the Écrins Massif. When you cycle here, you realize how small you are...
