The rock formation covers approximately 120 hectares. It was formed by corrosion of the dolomite rock of the Causse Noir. It was originally assumed that the rocks were a ruined city, and it was not until 1870 that a trench was cut through the rocks. The speleologist Edouard-Alfred Martel was the first to map the rocks in 1883-1884.

The rock formation is located in the western part of the department on the high plateau of the Causse Noir. To the north lie the rivers Tarn and Jonte, to the south lie the Dourbie gorges, and to the west lies the town of Millau.

The Roc Nantais is a rock in the shape of a monumental tower dominating the Dourbie at 808m. It obviously offers a magnificent viewpoint from which to admire the Larzac and the foothills of the Cévennes (on the left), the St-Alban (opposite) and the Causse des Cuns (on the right).

Chaos du Caoussou is the little brother of Chaos de Montpellier le Vieux and is separated from the latter by the Valat Nègre ravine. Even if it is less impressive, it thus forms a ruiniform chaos perched on a ledge overlooking the Dourbie valley.

The Cirque de Madasse is accessible by slightly technical paths but the place is spectacular! It is an integral biological reserve in which you can discover the Ermitage Saint Michel, perched on the ledge of the Causse Noir or the vases of China and Sèvres on the ledge of the Méjean which are strange rock formations.

Large face of stone firmly anchored in the Causse Bégon, as if it sheltered a giant whose only head would be visible. A nice climb to reach the top of the rock, but it would be a shame to miss the breathtaking view of the valley and the village of Nant. It is a real must in the region, the climb is worth it! There are several access paths, more or less difficult depending on the desire and the level, and the ascent can also be done from Cantobre or from Saint-Jean-du-Bruel.

Yes, nice ways to run. But are located in a tourist hotspot (www.lacitedepierres.com) and costs accordingly and yet has quite a domesticated charm.
