10월 6, 2025, Lac de Savine
Lake Savine is a unique sight; we saw it covered in snow at the end of September! If you're heading towards Colle Clapier or the bivouac of the same name, we recommend crampons (especially for the descent, which can be icy in some places). In winter, you may also need snowshoes.

Not to be confused with Lake Moncenisio, in French territory, Lago Grande, south of Moncenisio is surrounded by lush vegetation and crowned by the imposing Piedmontese mountains.

A small lake in a fairytale position, wedged as it is in a basin between the severe mountains of the Rocciamelone - Lamet group that overlook the small town of Moncenisio. Here you can arrive either with a nice climb from the town of Novalesa, or, more comfortably, from the SS 25 del Moncenisio. From a cycling point of view, the climb from Novalesa is tiring (average slopes of 10%, maximum of 13%), but satisfying as a panorama, the slightly downhill stretch of road that connects to the SS 25 del Moncenisio is also very beautiful. about before the old Italian customs. The old village of Moncenisio is worth a visit.

Unlike Lake Arpone, which can be reached comfortably by car, here you have to walk, consequently there are fewer people, less casino and you can better appreciate the magic of this splendid high-altitude lake, moreover very scenic!

Allegedly, Hannibal stopped here for two days when crossing the Alps (like on all other Alpine basses heading to Italy)

The final stretch that reaches the lake has too many obstacles and is difficult to pedal with a muscle, in any case it is for excellent alpine cyclists.

From the beautiful wooden bridge you have a good view of the Gorge de L'Arc and Fort Victor-Emmanuel. The cable cars of the adjoining high ropes course run over the bridge at dizzy heights.

At 2,078 meters above sea level, the Plan d'Amont reservoir is nestled in an absolutely sumptuous setting, at the foot of a handful of peaks over 3,000 meters. It is a good starting point for day hikes (or more!) in the Vanoise National Park.

Start of a hike in the Vanoise park with parking and toilets 😅. Big dam and a lake with emerald waters surrounded by rhododendrons and it's just the start 🤙

Small alpine lake in Val Cenischia located at about 1900m. From here it is possible to see the Grand Croix and the Moncenisio dam

The Ferrera lake is a small natural lake located in the municipality of Moncenisio, one of the smallest municipalities in Italy. Rather known by fishermen for its crystal clear waters rich in trout, it is surrounded by the imposing mountains of Lamet, to the north, and Giusalet, to the south. The road that connects it to Novalesa is called the royal road and, before the construction of the Napoleonic road (the current Moncenisio state road), it was the only connection between France and Novalesa. The town of Ferrera (now called Moncenisio) is currently inhabited by a few residents, who have renovated numerous houses while maintaining the style of the ancient "huts" and organized the interesting ecomuseum "le terre al confine" which collects evidence of the life of the mountaineers. The town is also crossed by the "via francigena", a hiking trail that is part of a larger network of trails that were formerly used by French pilgrims on their way to Rome.
