The Allschwil Forest is a forest and recreational area near the city of Basel. It extends over the Basel-Landschaft communities of Allschwil (approx. 220 hectares) and Binningen (approx. 30 hectares) and is partly protected. The rocks of the Grotte des Nains form an impressive gorge, approximately 25 meters high. According to legend, the little women of the earth lived here with the Erdmanala (little men of the earth). The gorge gives access to the Plateau des Nains and a beautiful view of the Ill valley.

The Plateau des Nains with its two vantage points Heideflüh and Erdwiebelenfelsen offers an ingenious view of the surrounding area. Here at the Heideflüh there is a grating on the rock and two large squares with tables, benches and grills have been set up. The rocks of the Heidenfluh are said to have served as a backdrop for the Druidic practices of the Celts.

It is said that the gorges near Ferrette were inhabited a long time ago. Dwarves lived there and lived in the hollows. These friendly creatures had eternal youth and beautiful childlike faces with shining eyes. Their small cave houses were decorated with all kinds of silver objects. To the left of the Grotto of Nains, where the Smurfs live, there is a crack in the rock, here you can climb up to the plateau and enjoy the beautiful view.
