In 2018, Vittoria Bussi set the women's hour record (which she then lost, then regained in 2023 and further improved in 2025). A sign, signed by Vittoria Bussi herself, reminds us that the cyclist used the straight stretch of the Strada Reale di Stupinigi to prepare for the record. Riding the same road at my "slow pace" (cit.) is a notable contrast, but it's nice to think that you're riding on the same playing field as the champions.

Very nice circular route

A few steps from the historic center of Carmagnola there is a protected area of great naturalistic interest: La Lanca di San Michele, an ancient riverbed, now abandoned, which has been transformed into a beautiful wetland rich in flora and fauna typical of the river environment and the Bosco del Gerbasso where, thanks to valuable scientific work, a strip of the original Po Valley plain forest has been recreated. Inside there is a beach, picnic area, observation points and many other points of interest.

For those who wish to stop for a visit, the Stork Center offers the possibility of observing different types of birds inside, along the route with several observation huts and explanatory panels.

Perhaps "monumental" is not exactly suitable for a willow: it is however a wonderful weeping willow, whose foliage falls to the ground, isolating a green hemisphere that looks a bit like a fairy igloo. The river can be glimpsed between the branches. An almost dreamlike experience. The willow can be seen from the cycle path that starts from Moncalieri and goes towards the IREN canal, and can be reached with a short dirt descent. A recommended experience.
