Great view of the Dachstein. If you're lucky, only slightly covered with clouds

There are always great views of the mighty rock faces. The Trisselwand is only recommended for those who don't suffer from vertigo.

Due to its height and attractiveness, the Dachstein has been a popular destination for mountaineers since the 19th century, after the Grimming was long considered the highest mountain in Styria. The reddish south walls made of Dachstein limestone, around 1 km high, are also famous.

The Trisselwand (also Trisselberg and Trisselkogel) is a 1754 m high mountain in the Totes Gebirge in Austria. The mountain, which rises around 1,000 meters above Lake Altaussee with its striking, around 600 meter high rock face, is, along with the Loser, the local mountain of the municipality of Altaussee. The striking west pillar, also known as the Preußpfeiler, separates the west wall from the southwest wall.

A silver fir tree around 1,400 years old was recovered from Lake Altaussee as part of a research project. The tree comes from an underwater forest that has been known since the 1970s. According to those responsible, the recovery of the 1,400 year old fir tree took several weeks. The tree was 18 meters deep and weighs six tons. Project manager Erwin Heine explained that the fire department needed four attempts to recover the tree. Around 100 tree trunks were also in the lake. Wood samples were taken from these, which showed that the trees were the same age.
