There's something mystical about it. Unfortunately, you cycle past it quickly without noticing the relic.

During archaeological excavations in the 1980s, a large burial mound was discovered in Telgte-Raestrup, to which an almost 40-meter-long avenue of posts leads. It is assumed that burials took place here around 3,700 years ago in a procession-like ceremony. As part of the "Regionale 2004", the burial mounds and the avenue of posts, which are located on the Ems cycle path, were reconstructed. The Telgte people's pronounced penchant for processions, as evidenced by the numerous Stations of the Cross, among other things, obviously has predecessors that go back far into pre-Christian times. Archaeological findings suggest that there were cult processions in this area as early as the late Stone Age and early Bronze Age. During archaeological investigations on the large cemetery and settlement area of Telgte Raestrup (Dovenacker/Emskämpe) with several hundred burials, a large burial mound was noticed, which was surrounded by a circular ditch with a diameter of 15 m. In the middle of the mound, again enclosed, was a body burial. What was really unusual, however, were the traces of an almost 40 m long avenue of posts leading to the mound. Research assumes that people walked through this long and narrow corridor around 3700 years ago in a kind of procession with a cultic background. The Ems played an important role as a cultural mediator in the spread of this type of burial in northern Germany. The traces of the cemetery and settlement have now been completely destroyed by sand mining and the expansion of a campsite. However, the construction of such a burial mound with a row of posts based on the model of Raestrup in the Emsauenpark in Telgte has allowed this past cultural asset to be recreated. Its construction with the help of interested citizens using methods typical of the time gives an idea of the work performed by the Bronze Age social associations. A nice, quiet area, but there is still a lot to discover.

You drove past there quickly. It only becomes clear at second glance.

Nice path, gravel, away from traffic. Attention, pedestrians and cyclists share the path.
