The bridge was built in 1365, making it the oldest covered wooden bridge in Europe and, with a length of 202.9 m, the second longest bridge of this type in Europe. It extends from the Lucerne Theater on the south bank to the Rathausquai and the St. Peterskapelle.

The concrete girder bridge was rebuilt in 1961 on the old pile foundation of the previous bridge. The structure is adorned with ornate wrought iron railings and cast iron chandeliers above the roadway. The pier was extensively refurbished and strengthened in 2014.

The approx. 90m long Rathaussteg connects the left bank of the Reuss (Lucerne City Theatre) with the right bank of the Reuss (stairs in the town hall). The footbridge was built in 1961 (replacing an iron truss bridge from 1899) and renovated in 2014.

Iron connection across the Reuss between the Lucerne Theater and the town hall. From here you can enjoy a wonderful view along the historic house front on the Rathausquai. When the Reuss is almost still, the house fronts are reflected in the water. During the Lozerner Fasnacht, the ultimate bridge crossing.
