The mighty walls of the monastery and castle complex are the flagship of the town of Dargun and a magnet for many visitors. Originally there was only a monastery here, which was rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau in the 16th century. In the last days of the Second World War, the castle fell victim to a fire. The ruins are impressive, as is the entire ensemble with the monastery church, the brewery and the tea pavilion.

In the Mecklenburg Lake District model park in Neubrandenburg there is a model of the castle that shows what it looked like before the fire. A sandstone chimney from Dargun Castle found its place in the "Sylvester Gallery" of Schwerin Castle (Wikipedia).
