🌊🏞️ The Aare Gorge near Meiringen is an impressive natural wonder in the Bernese Oberland. This hike takes you through the narrow, up to 200-meter-deep gorge through which the Aare flows. 🌄🚶‍♂️ 🚗 The Aare Gorge is easy to reach from Meiringen. You can arrive by car or public transport. There are parking spaces at both entrances to the gorge - west and east. 🚶‍♂️The hike through the Aare Gorge is easy and takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. The path is well secured and suitable for all ages. Entry usually costs around 10 CHF for adults. Start the hike at the west entrance of the Aare Gorge, which is located near the Aare Gorge West train station. Alternatively, you can also start at the east entrance. The path takes you along well-developed footbridges and through tunnels directly through the narrow gorge. The impressive rock faces and the roaring water of the Aare offer a unique natural experience. 📸

Fantastic gorge! Worth every second of the visit. 🤩 Please note that it will not be accessible from both sides until May 9, 2024. Until then, it will only be accessible from Aareschlucht-West due to construction work at the eastern end.

Pretty little meadow path with a unique view of the Eiger north face and Männlichen. You can even see Kleine Scheidegg from here. If you pay attention to the vertical rock face (on the left when you come from the upper glacier) you will see a large white spot in the otherwise gray rock face. The “Breitlouwina Tunnel” is hidden under this white patch of rock. It enables an underground crossing of the steep rock face that lies between Pfingstegg and the former mountain restaurant "Chalet Milchbach".

Absolutely impressive gorge. Here you are much closer to the "water" than in the Aare Gorge.

Avoid in wet weather although gate may be closed anyway as can be slippery on rocks up near the waterfall. Use the wire or even VF kit for beginners.

The beautiful Alpbachschlucht; be careful as this route hardly consists of real stairs and the precipices are very high. Not recommended if it has been raining as the rocks get very slippery. You will be treated however to some stunning views on the waterfall and the city of Meiringen below.

In fact, the Aare Gorge offers a large number of fantastic views and insights. A very impressive experience, best enjoyed outside of the holiday season and/or during the week.
