The hiking trail from Brienz to Mühlebach is closed due to the 2024 storm. It is also no longer accessible from Gäldried. The trail has completely collapsed, and all bridges are destroyed.

At the fork above the bridge, two paths lead to Kemmeriboden and require a decision. Unfortunately, there is no time information for the two alternatives. The path marked here down to the stream and over the bridge on the other side of the Bärselbach is clearly the longer one, because it leads in wide arcs to the south and east via Schönisei and Küblisbühl as well as up and down again, partly on sections of road. But you hike beautiful sections along the Emme - with great waterfalls near Küblisbühl. The other path straight ahead to the west initially leads into a charming gorge of the Bärselbach, but then further away from the brook via Hirschwendiberg to Kemmeriboden. A circular route via Kemmeriboden-Bad would also be possible, so that one gets to know both routes.

The energy of the waterfall, the trees and the rock formations is always surprising. In any light and at any time of the year, the sight provides breathtaking moments that invigorate the mind and soul. Walking under it, feeling and breathing in the power of the waterfall is an incomparable natural experience.

On the way there are great views of the lake and at the end of the Giessbach, which thunders down 400 meters in over 14 steps.

The non-profit Giessbach Foundation was founded in 1983 by the famous animal and environmental activist Franz Weber to save the historically valuable grand hotel from the Belle Epoque from demolition and to preserve this beautiful piece of home above Lake Brienz for the Swiss people as a common heritage.
