The Torre del Homenaje is the main tower of the Castillo de la Villa in Martos, Jaén. This tower is a historical remnant of the medieval defences and stands on the highest point of the city. The Otiñar watchtower is a construction intended to control the border crossings between Catholic and Muslim Spain, through the valley of the Quiebrajano River. Today the tower and much of the original construction from the 12th-14th centuries are preserved in good condition.

Napoleonic troops were stationed in the castle for some time. Following the French invasion and subsequent withdrawal of Napoleonic troops from the Castle of Santa Catalina after the failure in the famous Battle of Bailén in 1812, the French destroyed the castle in retaliation before leaving.
